YSM was established in 1896 to serve the poor and vulnerable in Toronto. Today, we serve three population groups, including vulnerable youth, families in crisis and adults experiencing long-term poverty, with a mission to end long-term poverty in one generation in partnership with others including volunteers, corporate leaders, other agencies, government and neighbours with lived experience of poverty. We support immediate needs with wraparound care, including food, employment, health and housing services while also supporting the Regent Park community, helping residents tackle neighbourhood challenges. We also seek out root causes and systemic barriers that keep people trapped in poverty, and work to develop solutions. A key partner is Unite Here, Local 75, which will operate its hospitality training centre within ELEV8 by YSM, creating opportunities for living-wage jobs for residents and the broader community.
