St. Michael’s Hospital was founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1892 with a promise to provide compassionate care for people living in poverty. The Sisters’ legacy lives on through our identity as Toronto’s Urban Angel, representing a century-long commitment to care for those facing complex social barriers including the largest number of patients experiencing homelessness of any Ontario hospital. Over the last 130 years, the hospital has evolved to become a specialized resource for the province with expertise in Trauma, Critical Care, Brain & Cardiac Care as well as Community Mental Health and Primary Care. St. Michael’s Hospital Foundation is the dedicated fundraising organization for St. Michael’s Hospital, raising funds for identified priorities across capital, care, research and education projects. Established in 1992, the Foundation has supported the growth of St. Michael’s into one of Canada’s leading teaching and research hospitals.
