L’Arche Daybreak is a charitable, non-for-profit organization founded in 1969 and part of an international federation of L’Arche communities around the world. L’Arche Daybreak is an intentional community where people with and without intellectual disabilities live, work, and learn together. It’s mission is to make known the unique contributions of persons with intellectual disabilities through it’s model of shared living, and through creative support programming. L’Arche Daybreak is an example of how people of different intellectual capacity, social origin and culture, can live and work together. Our community consists of eight homes in Richmond Hill, Ontario. All of our homes are close to public transportation, libraries, restaurants, and gyms. Richmond Hill is located about an hour north of Toronto. There are 37 core members (persons with intellectual disabilities) who have a home at Daybreak, living along with 32 – 34 assistants in our homes.
