DESCRIPTION
Rocky View Foundation (RVF) would use the Tenant Stability Fund to provide targeted, short-term financial support to individuals and families at risk of housing instability across Rocky View County and the municipalities of Airdrie, Cochrane, Crossfield, Irricana, and Beiseker. While RVF administers the Rental Assistance Benefit (RAB) program, we regularly receive calls from community members facing urgent situations that fall outside of RAB eligibility or require more immediate support. Funding would be used to deliver short-term rent supplements to bridge temporary financial gaps, emergency financial assistance to prevent eviction, and support with security deposits to help individuals secure stable housing. This program would address critical gaps by providing timely, flexible assistance to those in crisis, helping to stabilize tenancies and prevent homelessness. Through our direct connection to the community and existing housing programs, RVF is well-positioned to identify need, respond quickly, and ensure funds are distributed effectively to those who need it most.

Project Funding
Funding Required
RVF is requesting staggered grant funding of $40,000 in Year 1, $60,000 in Year 2, and $80,000 in Year 3 to deliver short-term rent supports, emergency eviction prevention assistance, and damage deposit funding. This phased approach will help ensure funds are appropriately allocated and aligned with actual demand as the program is introduced and grows within the communities we serve.

Use of funds
The requested funds will be used to provide short-term rent supplements, emergency financial assistance to prevent eviction, and support with security deposits for individuals and families facing housing instability. This flexible funding will allow RVF to respond quickly to urgent situations that cannot be addressed through existing programs. Through the administration of the RAB program, we are already receiving regular calls from community members who have applied but are not yet scoring high enough to receive immediate funding, despite the financial strain. These individuals often fall through the cracks. This fund would allow us to assist those “in-between” cases and provide one-time or short-term help when it is needed most. The impact of this funding would extend beyond the approximately 160 households currently supported through RAB, allowing us to reach additional individuals and families who would otherwise go unsupported. By offering early intervention, we can prevent situations from escalating into crisis, reduce the risk of eviction, and promote long-term housing stability. Ultimately, this will strengthen the overall well-being and resilience of the communities we serve.
Human Impact Story
Four years ago, we were forced to move when our landlord sold our home, increasing our rent by $400 a month. Soon after, my husband was diagnosed with colon cancer. Within six months, he became palliative and could no longer work, causing a significant loss of income. We applied for the Rental Assistance Benefit (RAB) program, and that support allowed us to stay in our home. After he passed away in 2024, I lost his CPP-D income, leaving me with 79% of my income going to rent. I was overwhelmed and scared. Rocky View Foundation guided me through the renewal process and approved increased support, allowing my children and me to remain in our home. This program didn’t just help us; it kept a roof over our heads during the hardest time of our lives.
