Kehilla's Rental Assistance Program (RAP)

Housing Provider

DESCRIPTION

Founded 12 years ago, RAP ensures vulnerable community members can afford rent without choosing between shelter and basic necessities. The program now supports three groups. The first is Holocaust survivors, with generous support from the Azrieli Foundation. As one survivor with serious health issues shared, she no longer must choose between paying for medication and paying rent. The second group is young adults who have aged out of foster care and need stable housing as they work toward independence. The third and largest group includes individuals and families facing mental-health challenges, chronic illness, disability, domestic violence, and single parenting. The impact is significant. Recipients say RAP allows them to afford groceries, medication, and meaningful participation in the Jewish community. One described the assistance as “nothing short of lifesaving.” RAP currently supports 210 households, yet the waitlist now exceeds 250. A contribution of $4,800 provides one household with rental assistance for an entire year.

Project Funding

Funding Required

A gift of $4,800 provides one household with a full year of rental support - and with more than 250 households currently on our growing waitlist, the need has never been greater.

Funds Raised

Kehilla raised $1.355M in 2024. We have secured additional funding of $100,000 to address the waitlist, but much more is needed.

Use of funds

Funds raised will be used to offset rents to bring them down to affordable levels.
