DESCRIPTION
The City of Airdrie (pop. of nearly 100,000 residents) does not have an emergency shelter for unhoused residents or families fleeing domestic violence. Residents in the surrounding Rocky View County also use Airdrie as a service hub as there are no emergency housing services & supports offered in the rural area. Since Jan. 2025, Community Links, in partnership with the City, operates a Systems Navigation Program, helping residents who are unhoused or at-risk of homelessness navigate systems which help support pathways to housing & well-being. This proposed project, A Doorway to Housing, would provide critical funds to help highly vulnerable residents secure housing in the face of their precarious circumstances (e.g., living rough, extreme cold weather, domestic violence). Funds would support transportation to a shelter, treatment program, or community-based housing; relocation costs to move near/with natural supports; and, for those who have the ability to pay market value rent where Alberta Supports is not approved, a damage deposit and first month's rent.
